Belize November 2005 -Thumbnails

This year Sue and I headed off for Belize and I decided to try to improve my underwater photography. I think it improved quite a lot and I learned some valuable lessons. Number 1 of which is take spare batteries and silica gel. The camera seems to eat batteries while under water and silica gel (dessicant) to absorb any moisture is essential!

Next Year I'll try again. I hope to have a better flash system but I'll keep the little Nikon Coolpix for another year. I think my equipment exceeds my technical abilities right now.

Newsflash - I have decided, after much consideration I bought a sea and sea Islander kit which is a DX8000G camera and underwater housing. A Sea and Sea YS-55 Strobe and a Wide angle lens attachment. Adding this to my existing strobe should give me a very nice 'beginners package'

Some of the fish in the photos are not known to us. If you know the name (or if we got one wrong), let us know so we can update the site.

It has been pointed out that we do not know the difference between corals and sponges. OK. Good catch. Next year we'll get it right - maybe.

A very special thanks to the crew at Amigos Del Mar: Rene, Tony, Philippe and Alex. Thanks guys! See you next year!

Dive safe, and dive often.
Enjoy,

Sue and Ian

A little technical info: I used a Nikon Coolpix 5200 with an Ikelite housing and a Sunpak G-Flash strobe unit. Most photos were taken between 50 and 80 feet except for the stingrays and the puffers which were taken snorkelling. I am looking at getting an Ikelite strobe system if anyone has any opinions please feel free to use the message boards to let me know.

There are also some movies (30 seconds - ish) which I shot with the camera. These are pretty big files so either have a fast connection or be patient.

As I say, these may take a while to load so be patient.
